Gil Marín, CEO of Atlético Madrid, is the latest figure to join the chorus of voices commenting on the case of Julián Álvarez, the Argentine forward who wants to leave the club. The executive believes the striker was 'misled.'
"[Julián] is really struggling. There were people who misled him, who left him confused, and the truth is that I deeply regret it. I know him, I’ve been working with him for some time, and he is a great person, a great professional and an excellent footballer. He is completely confused and, at the moment, he is going through a very difficult situation, both personally and professionally," he said after the Champions League draw.
These remarks came just a few hours after Atlético Madrid issued an official statement expressing the full support of the board members for the decision not to negotiate Julián Álvarez’s departure.
The Argentine international is on a collision course with the Spanish club and has deliberately missed the latest training sessions in an attempt to force through his exit. He has claimed, however, that he was unwell during those absences.
