Atlético Madrid enter the final stretch with greater freedom, as about €50 million from a capital increase is available to reinforce Diego Simeone’s squad after an early burst of spending.
According to La Colina De Nervion, the shift is structural, the club can now advance deals without first linking each arrival to a sale.
The rebuild began with Alejandro Grimaldo, Morten Hjulmand and Kang-in Lee. The trio cost €93 million guaranteed plus €15 million in add-ons. Hjulmand came from Sporting de Portugal for €40 million plus five, Lee joined from PSG until 2031, and Grimaldo addressed left-back after his spell at Bayer Leverkusen.
After Apollo Sports Capital became majority shareholder, March’s General Meeting approved a capital increase of up to €100 million. Roughly half is available this summer, with funds also for the Ciudad del Deporte beside the Riyadh Air Metropolitano.
The Sørloth and Dušan Vlahović cases capture the change. Atlético are weighing the Serbian even if the Norwegian stays. Vlahović is a free agent after leaving Juventus, so salary and terms would be significant, and Sørloth need not depart first.
Cristian Romero is also on the table, with Atlético working with Tottenham for the Argentine centre-back. A signing of that calibre now would reveal the club’s true late window margin. The €50 million also covers wages, contract length, payment terms and amortisation, enabling higher nominal fees and more freedom over sequencing, while sales still bring income, cut the wage bill and free squad space.
