Atletico Madrid accept Julian Alvarez offer from Arsenal

Barcelona will look to sign a new striker before the summer transfer window closes, although it is now unlikely to be Julian Alvarez that joins Hansi Flick’s side. The Catalans have chased his signature for several weeks, but after becoming very frustrated with the lack of progress made, the decision was made earlier this week to look elsewhere.

Barcelona’s decision to move on from Alvarez has now prompted other clubs to step up plans to sign him. Atletico Madrid have made it very clear that they will not entertain offers from a direct rival, but when it comes to Arsenal, they are open to talks, as has been shown in new developments over the last 24 hours.

MD have confirmed that Arsenal have made an offer to sign Alvarez, which has been accepted by Atleti. The Madrid club have recognised that the situation with their star striker is “untenable”, and while they will not sell to Barcelona, they are very keen to offload him in order to put this summer saga behind them.

Alvarez not interested in Arsenal move

That could have been the end of things, and it would have allowed Barcelona to move on without any lingering feelings. However, the report also confirmed that Alvarez has informed Arsenal that he has no intention in signing for them, with his clear ambition still being to end up at the Spotify Camp Nou by the beginning of September.

It is no surprise that Alvarez has turned down Arsenal, given that he’s been very clear that if an exit is possible, he would only join Barcelona. If anything, this movement over the last few days will only have antagonised him further, knowing that his dream move is deliberately being blocked, despite the club being open to his sale. It now remains to be seen whether he takes action to force the matter, although he is running out of time.
