After talks stalled on asking price in June, Atletico Madrid have re-opened negotiations with Girona for forward Artem Dovbyk, and appear to be on the verge of a deal with the Catalan side. Los Colchoneros are in need of a new number nine, after AC Milan activated Alvaro Morata’s release clause.

They will not be activating Dovbyk’s release clause of €40m though, as per Relevo. Matteo Moretto explains that they are trying to close the deal before Roma or West Ham United move in for Dovbyk, and the key factor to be decided is whether the deal will be paid for in a fixed fee plus bonuses, or his release clause will be paid in instalments. They have had the green light from the player and terms agreed for ‘weeks’.

As per Diario AS, the fee will likely be a €30m fixed fee plus bonuses of €5m, which would represent a good deal for Diego Simeone’s side. They go on to say that if there are any more exits in the Atletico frontline, they could go for another forward, with Borussia Dortmund’s Niclas Fullkrug a potential low-cost option.
