Real Madrid’s search for midfield reinforcements could lead them into a direct transfer battle with city rivals Atletico Madrid, with both clubs keeping a close eye on Liverpool star Alexis Mac Allister.

According to Argentine newspaper Ole, as relayed by Mundo Deportivo, the Argentina international has emerged as a highly valued target in the Spanish capital, with interest growing ahead of what could be a busy summer market.

While Liverpool have shown no indication that they want to part ways with one of their most important players, the midfielder’s situation is attracting attention from some of Europe’s biggest clubs.

It is to be noted that Mac Allister remains under contract until 2028 and has become a key figure since arriving from Brighton in 2023.

Despite that, with a new managerial era underway at Liverpool, speculation about the future shape of the squad has inevitably started to grow.

As such, the biggest challenge for any interested club will be Liverpool’s valuation of the player.

Mac Allister is currently regarded as one of the Premier League’s most complete midfielders, and his market value is believed to be around €80 million.

Despite that high valuation, both Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid are prepared to compete for his signature despite the financial demands involved.

Atletico’s interest appears particularly strong because Diego Simeone views the Argentine as one of his priority targets and sees him as an ideal fit for his midfield.

Real Madrid, meanwhile, are monitoring the situation from a slightly different perspective.

What’s their perspective?

The record European champions continue to assess several midfield options as they plan for the future, and Mac Allister is believed to be one of the names under consideration should other targets prove unattainable.

While Enzo Fernandez continues to be viewed as Real Madrid’s preferred midfield target, securing a deal with Chelsea would likely be extremely difficult and financially demanding.

And that reality explains why the club are keeping alternative options open, which is where Mac Allister comes in.

Furthermore, Rodri has also been linked with a move to the Santiago Bernabeu in recent months, but questions surrounding his age profile and recent injury concerns appear to have reduced his appeal compared to previous windows.
