Atletico Madrid are showing strong interest in signing Bayern Munich midfielder Leon Goretzka in the January transfer window.
The 30-year-old joined Bayern in the summer of 2018 from Schalke, and he has been a key player for the club over the years, making over 290 appearances.
Goretzka has a contract until the end of the season, and he is more likely to depart Bayern on a free transfer next summer.

The Rojiblancos have been heavily linked with a move for the German midfielder this month, but it appears they have intensified their effort in recent days.
Christian Falk has told CFBayern that Atletico are looking for a replacement after they sold Conor Gallagher to Tottenham Hotspur this month, and they have earmarked Goretzka as a potential option.
According to my Information, Atlético Madrid is showing strong interest in the midfielder from the German record champions. This is consistent with the fact that Mateu Alemany (62), sporting director of the Rojiblancos, flew from Madrid to Munich late Monday evening. Was it to hold talks with Goretzka and his agents? Atletico is also interested in Garcia of Leverkusen.
According to a report from Bild, Bayern are open to selling the midfielder this month, but Atletico may not be willing to meet their asking price.
Goretzka has made 15 starts in the Bundesliga this season, and a further three appearances have come from the bench.
The German midfielder has also made six appearances in the Champions League, but he has not started in any of them.
According to Calciomercato, AC Milan have made a new contact with Leon Goretzka’s agency ‘ROOF’ in the past few hours, with a view to a free transfer in the summer.
Milan’s Sporting director, Igli Tare, is a big fan of Goretzka, and he is pushing hard to sign him.
The Italian sources claim that the player is also open to the idea and appreciates Milan’s project. Furthermore, Milan do not see Goretzka’s potential salary demands to be beyond their budget, but they face competition from financially strong clubs.
Meanwhile, according to Atletico Mundo Deportivo, Bayern are asking for around €20m for Goretzka. The Rojiblancos consider this amount excessive, given that Goretzka will be a free agent at the end of the season.
