Atlético Madrid eyeing deal for Elche star | OneFootball

The brass at La Liga giants Atlético Madrid have earmarked a member of the defensive ranks at newly-promoted Elche as a leading transfer target.

That’s according to market insider Ekrem Konur, who points towards David Affengruber as the player in question.

Affengruber, for those not familiar with his name, is a 24-year-old defender, who chiefly lines out in a central role.

The Austrian has turned heads with the level of his performances across the early weeks of the new season, looking very much at home in the Spanish top-flight.

All told, Affengruber has featured from the off in all but one of Elche’s eight La Liga fixtures, playing a key role in the Franjiverdes’ surprise march to 7th in the table.

With such excellence, though, comes inevitable outside interest.

As confirmed by the aforementioned Ekrem Konur, Atlético Madrid have ‘set sights’ on the signature of the former Sturm Graz stopper.

The Rojiblancos are joined by fellow La Liga clubs Sevilla and Real Betis in the hunt for Affengruber.

Elche, meanwhile, have set an asking price in the region of €15/20 million for their defensive stalwart.
