Atletico Madrid forward Angel Correa looked as if he was on his way out of the club in January, with only Los Rojiblancos €30m asking price standing between him a move to Saudi Arabian side Al-Ittihad. Yet after an improved second half of the season, Correa looks much more likely to stay at the club.
With uncertainty over Alvaro Morata’s future, and Memphis Depay to leave this summer, the chances of Atletico wanting to keep Correa are increased. As pointed out by Diario AS, Diego Simeone has always been in favour of keeping the 29-year-old, and after giving him more game time, he is now happy in the Spanish capital again.
Yet Matteo Moretto has told Fabrizio Romano’s Daily Briefing that it is not 100% settled that he will remain at the club, noting that the right offer might tempt both sides into doing business. However his situation has improved, and he now looks much more likely to stay.
Correa has now been at Atletico for more than a decade now, but has never nailed down a regular starting spot, despite several strong runs in the team. The Argentine has a habit of coming up with important goals too, but is not a natural choice to accompany Antoine Griezmann up front.
