Atlético Madrid make contact over loan deal for Man City star | OneFootball

The powers that be at La Liga giants Atlético Madrid have begun exploratory talks over the potential signing of a member of the midfield ranks at Manchester City.

That’s according to transfer insider David Ornstein, who points towards Matheus Nunes as the player in the sights of Diego Simeone and co.

Despite the arrival of Conor Gallagher from Chelsea last week, Atlético, it is understood, remain keen to add further to their options in the middle of the park for the season ahead.

And Nunes’ is one profile which is highly appreciated amongst those behind the scenes at the Wanda Metropolitano.

In turn, as per the aforementioned David Ornstein of The Athletic:

‘Atletico Madrid are exploring the potential loan signing of Manchester City midfielder Matheus Nunes.’

Atlético, it would appear, are hopeful of Pep Guardiola and his coaching staff opening to Nunes – a bit-part player last season – departing on the back of the return of İlkay Gündoğan.

Ornstein adds that as things stand it is unclear what Man City’s stance is when it comes to the Portuguese’s future, but those in Spain’s capital remain hopeful of striking a 2nd deal of the summer with the Premier League champions, following the big-money arrival of Julián Alvarez.
