Atletico Madrid make late enquiry for Theo Hernandez | OneFootball

Atletico Madrid have made a late enquiry about the possibility of signing AC Milan left-back Theo Hernandez (h/t Sky Sport Italia).

Milan have decided to sell the French international this summer due to his excessive salary demands.

Al-Hilal are the front-runners after agreeing a €35 million fee with the Italian giants.

They have also tabled a lucrative salary worth €18m a year for Hernandez, but he is reluctant to accept it.

The French defender still wants to compete at an elite level and is hoping for an offer from a top European club.

Milan have identified Juventus defender Andrea Cambiaso as a replacement for Hernandez.

Atletico are familiar with Hernandez. He was previously part of their youth system alongside his brother, Lucas Hernandez.

Reinildo Mandava and Cesar Azpilicueta are expected to leave the Wanda Metropolitano, as their contracts expire this summer.

Javi Galan is the only other reliable option on the left flank.

Hernandez has been instrumental in Milan’s resurgence over the last few seasons, winning the Scudetto in 2021/22.

He also scored in the Italian Super Cup final win against arch-rivals Inter Milan earlier this year.

The 27-year-old is an attacking-minded full-back, excelling in ball progression, crossing, playmaking and ball-striking. His physicality makes him a well-rounded player.

Atletico have also been monitoring Girona full-back Miguel Gutierrez.
