Atletico Madrid head to the Camp Nou on Wednesday night to take on Barcelona in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final.
The visitors come into this clash with mixed form, having suffered back-to-back defeats against Real Madrid (3–2) and Barcelona (2–1).
Still, they showed attacking promise when knocking out Tottenham in a thrilling previous round. In La Liga, Atletico currently occupy fourth place on 57 points from 30 games, just one point behind Villarreal in third.
Diego Simeone rotated his squad heavily in the recent league loss at Barcelona, saving several of his key players for this European tie.
Jan Oblak, David Hancko, and attackers Ademola Lookman and Julian Alvarez, are all expected to return to the starting XI.
Even with those returns, Simeone has some concerns—especially around midfield and defence. Pablo Barrios remains out due to a thigh injury, while Rodrigo Mendoza is unavailable with an ankle problem.
Jose Gimenez and Johnny Cardoso are both nursing muscle issues and may not be fit to start.
Antoine Griezmann is fully fit and will join Atletico’s attack as they chase a crucial away goal.
Alexander Sorloth has recovered and might be used later in the match if Griezmann gets the nod to start the match.
Possible Atletico Madrid starting XI: Oblak; Llorente, Le Normand, Hancko, Ruggeri; Koke, Baena; Simeone, Griezmann, Lookman; Alvarez
The match will kick off at 8pm BST on Wednesday, 8th April.
Fans in the UK can watch the match live on TNT Sports 2 or stream it via the TNT Sports app or Discovery+ with an active subscription.
