Atletico Madrid forward and FC Barcelona target Julian Alvarez took to the field at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano for the first time this season this past weekend, and the reception he received was very hostile.

The Argentine star was whistled loudly by the fans in the stands who made their dissent towards him very clear from the moment his name was announced.

It was a very harsh moment for the striker who was seen dejected and deeply hurt by his situation on the Atletico Madrid bench and was even forced off the field immediately after the game without even being given a chance to greet the fans.

Needless to say, putting the player through such public humiliation was the club’s decision and the player is growing deeply resentful towards the club.

An attempt to sell

In a recent report, SPORT brings to light that Atletico Madrid are now opening up to the possibility of selling Alvarez and are willing to facilitate a transfer to Arsenal.

At this point, they seemingly have no option but to sell the player, and they prefer negotiating a deal with the London-based side. They retain their dissent towards Barcelona and are still reluctant to begin talks.

Los Rojiblancos are attempting to finalise Alvarez’s departure to Arsenal for a fee of €150 million and the player is being held at gunpoint to make a decision.

The Gunners, for their part, are also uncertain whether they wish to spend so much on a new striker.

What is Alvarez’s situation?

At this point, the player has a deep-rooted desire in his mind to join Barcelona and has stuck to his resolve so far. With every passing day, however, the decision grows complicated.

Staying at Atletico Madrid will be no less than hell for Alvarez, and he will be tempted to take any route out as the days pass. All eyes, thus, are on his entourage to see if his stance towards Arsenal changes.

As matters stand, the player is against moving back to England and a slim door may open for Barcelona if he continues to stand against the Arsenal option.

With under ten days remaining, Deco and Co. are in a race against time to finalise the signing, but waiting for Alvarez may well go down to the wire.

Will the club hold on and push until deadline day, or will they activate Plan B? Only time will tell.
