La Liga giants Atlético Madrid have this weekend turned heads across world football.

This comes owing to a somewhat bizarre piece of transfer business.

As confirmed by marker insider Fabrizio Romano, the Rojiblancos have come to the decision to part ways with young frontman Samu Omorodion.

The Spanish youth international will imminently take his talents to Portugal, to line out for Vítor Bruno’s Porto.

As much, on the surface, may not come as all that much of a surprise, considering Omorodion was just weeks ago on the verge of a move to England with Chelsea.

What has come as a shock, though, are the terms of the deal.

As per a report from Fabrizio Romano, Porto will pay Atlético just €15 million up front, for 50% of the player’s rights.

The Liga Portugal heavyweights will then have the chance to purchase a further 15% in 12 months’ time, for €5 million, and another 15% in the summer of 2026.

Atléti have at least managed to include a considerable 50% sell-on clause in the agreement, but the transfer has nevertheless gone down like a lead balloon amongst those of a Rojiblancos persuasion.

This comes a matter of weeks on from it looking as though the coffers at the Wanda Metropolitano would be reinforced by an up front sum in excess of €40 million, on the part of the aforementioned Chelsea…
