Members of both the coaching and playing staff at Atlético Madrid were forced to intervene, owing to the actions of the club’s supporters on Sunday evening.

Atlético, of course, are currently locked action.

In the headline fixture of the weekend in La Liga, Diego Simeone’s troops have welcomed city neighbours Real to the Wanda Metropolitano, for the first Madrid Derby of the campaign.

As things stand amid a tense atmosphere in the Spanish capital, it is the visitors who boast the advantage when it comes to the scoreline, owing to a deflected 2nd-half strike on the part of defender Éder Militão.

On the back of Militão’s strike finding the net, however, the tension inside the Metropolitano completely boiled over.

Evidently of the opinion that Real Madrid no.1 Thibaut Courtois took his celebrations a step too far, the home crowd rained down projectiles in and around the visitors’ goal.

Referee Mateo Busquets and his team of officials, in turn, made the call to bring a temporary halt to proceedings, sending the two squads back to their respective dressing rooms.

Prior to as much, though, Atlético pair Koke and José María Giménez, alongside head coach Diego Simeone, made their way to the stand behind the Real Madrid goal.

From here, the trio engaged in a lengthy exchange with a specific section of fans, calling for a halt to the trouble to ensure the matchup’s resumption:
