Atletico Madrid are targeting a summer move for Wolves midfielder Joao Gomes.

According to ExpressAndStar.com, the La Liga club have opened talks with intermediaries and are showing the strongest interest in the 25-year-old.

With Wolves heading for the Championship, Gomes is expected to leave Molineux and is understood to have multiple suitors.

Atletico, Champions League semi-finalists who face Arsenal next week, explored a deal in January but were unable to complete it.

The Spanish side are now moving early at the start of what is expected to be a busy summer for Wolves, with many players anticipated to come and go.

Gomes has made 126 appearances for Wolves since joining from Flamengo in January 2023 after a protracted pursuit that included a viral #FreeJoaoGomes fan campaign.
