Atlético Madrid are reaping early commercial rewards from signing Kang In Lee, even before his on-pitch impact, with surging merchandise demand and social growth drawing major sponsorship interest.
The club recently paid 35.5 million euros in add-ons for the South Korean star. South Korean media report Atlético may already be offsetting that outlay, finalising a multi-season deal worth 20 million euros with a Korean company and another 20 million euros agreement with a European brand.
Xports News reports both sponsorships are close to being completed. News1 also says the agreements are not yet official or public.
Seoul has already sold out the 10,000 Atlético shirts taken there when his signing was announced. AS reports it is the biggest commercial launch by a player in many years.
Atlético’s profile in South Korea has surged, with up to 200,000 new social followers in the two days after the announcement. The club has opened Casa Atleti in Seoul, a permanent store, and a collaboration with Korean firm Over The Pitch.
