According to Ekipa, claims that Atletico Madrid are targeting Jaka Bijol have been dismissed as nonsense. The centre-back, a £15m signing from Udinese in June, has recently forced his way into Daniel Farke's plans.

He had to wait until the 2-1 win over West Ham for his first Premier League appearance as Joe Rodon and Pascal Struijk were preferred. After Farke moved to a 3-5-2, he became a starter alongside that pair.

His strong displays include a thumping header in the 3-1 win over Chelsea. Reports had suggested Diego Simeone was ready to spend €30m (£26m) on him. The story was written off, with interest said to date back 18 months after Euro 2024 and go no further.

Bijol has only made eight appearances for Leeds since arriving from Udinese. It would make little sense for Atletico to move now, and it is highly unlikely the 49ers entertain any negotiations.

Selling in January would be bizarre as Leeds remain in a relegation battle. In September, Leeds were said to have hit their PSR limit, with sales needed if permanent signings are made in January.

The club can still choose to spend and balance the books by 30 June. If Bijol continues to shine, he could be sold for a quick profit in June to help avoid any potential points deductions, given he is among the most saleable assets at Elland Road.
