Atletico Madrid take on Girona in their La Liga Matchday 37 clash on Sunday evening, in what will be their final home game of the season.
Diego Simeone’s side will be aiming to finish strong at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano by securing all three points. The match also carries emotional weight, as it is expected to be Antoine Griezmann’s final home appearance for the club before his planned summer move to Orlando City.
Atlético currently sit fourth in the table and come into this game with mixed form, having picked up three wins and two losses in their last five league matches. They bounced back from a disappointing 1-0 home defeat to Celta Vigo with a hard-fought 2-1 away victory against Osasuna
Simeone faces major selection problems heading into this fixture, particularly in midfield and defence.
Marcos Llorente is suspended after receiving a red card against Osasuna, while key defenders José María Giménez (ankle) and Nahuel Molina (thigh) are ruled out through injury.
Midfielder Johnny Cardoso is also unavailable due to a serious ankle issue.
Several other first-team players — including Julián Álvarez, Pablo Barrios, Nicolás González, and Giuliano Simeone — are doubtful as they deal with ongoing muscle problems and will need late fitness tests to determine their availability.
There is some positive news, though, as Álex Baena returns to the squad after serving a one-match suspension.
Possible Atletico Madrid starting XI: Oblak; Pubill, Le Normand, Hancko, Ruggeri; Mendoza, Vargas; Lookman, Griezmann, Baena; Sorloth
The match will kick off at 6pm BST on Sunday, 17th May.
Fans in the UK can watch the game live on Premier Sports 1 and Premier Sports 2.
