Inter’s morale took a hit on Sunday as AC Milan stunned the Nerazzurri at San Siro.

Despite hitting the woodwork twice and missing a penalty, Inter couldn’t find the net in a stomach-wrenching 1-0 defeat.

However, the upcoming away game against Atletico Madrid could serve as an ideal opportunity for Chivu’s side to bounce back.

Indeed, they have fared outstandingly at the beginning of the new Champions League campaign.

With all four wins in this season’s league phase, the Serie A giants are on the brink of securing automatic last-16 qualification.

Still, with Arsenal, Borussia Dortmund, and Liverpool set to test Inter’s continental credentials, there’s no room for complacency.

Furthermore, it’s worth noting that Inter lost their only previous meeting with Los Rojiblancos at the Metropolitano Stadium.

“I liked our attitude on Sunday,” Cristian Chivu admitted. “Our attacking intent, our focus, our determination, what we created.

“We lacked a bit of luck, but that will come gradually. We didn’t concede much; we kept our balance.

“I can see growth, and we’re reducing the weaknesses we had in the past.

“I expect similarities with the derby,” Chivu added. “We’re facing a team that resembles Milan.

“The difference is that we’re away from home and Atlético are at home.

“We know how difficult it is to face them here.

“However, we’re ready and we must respect the game plan, doing things with speed, intensity, and more ruthlessness in front of goal.”

Inter will be out to extend their unbeaten away run in the Champions League to seven games.
