Atlético visit Mestalla with one eye on London and Tuesday’s Champions League semi-final against Arsenal. Diego Simeone makes 11 changes from Tuesday’s side, with no player keeping his place.
According to AS, LaLiga has begun to feel long for Atlético and the Champions League is the focus. Valencia will look to profit, as Sevilla and Elche already did.
Julián Alvarez, Giuliano, Sorloth, Hancko and Llorente have stayed in Madrid to recover in time, along with the injured Barrios, Nico and Giménez.
Simeone again turns to the academy, with nine players from the Madrileño, four of them starting. Boñar and Julio Díaz are in defence. He also calls on those who were on the bench for the Metropolitano leg against Arsenal, namely Lenglet, Vargas, Mendoza and Almada, who was sent off at Elche in the first half.
With Sorloth and Julián missing there is no natural centre forward. Cubo bolsters the role and waits on the bench with Iker Luque.
Competition rules require at least seven first-team players, so Le Normand starts. Morcillo and Rayane also come into the XI. Mestalla offers a chance to make amends and a shop window for the squad players.
