According to Globo, Fausto Vera’s brief spell at Atlético Mineiro appears to be nearing a conclusion as the Argentine midfielder edges closer to an exit after just one year with the club. Signed from Corinthians in July 2024 for a reported 4.5 million dollars (around R$24.7 million), Vera has seen his role diminish rapidly and is now being considered for transfer in the current window.

Atlético initially secured Vera on a contract through the end of 2027, fulfilling a specific request from then-coach Gabriel Milito. Vera was a regular presence in the squad during Milito’s tenure, but following Milito’s departure after defeats in both the Copa do Brasil and the Libertadores, the landscape shifted dramatically. Under new boss Cuca, Vera lost his favored status, featuring in just 14 matches this season and scoring a single goal.

Tellingly, Vera was left out of the matchday squad for Atlético’s final fixture before the Club World Cup break. Club sources cited that Vera himself opted out, stating he wasn’t fully focused given ongoing discussions about a possible move. While several clubs have enquired about his availability, no formal offers have materialized, leaving his next destination undecided for now.

The circumstances around Vera’s situation are complicated by financial tensions between Atlético and Corinthians. The mineiro club has yet to complete the full payment for the player’s transfer, prompting Corinthians to file a complaint with Brazil’s National Dispute Resolution Chamber (CNRD). As Atlético seeks to balance its finances during a difficult period, Vera’s departure—whether through sale or loan—is also being considered as a means to relieve the wage bill.

Atlético management has publicly acknowledged the need to offload players during this transfer window to help stabilize accounts, with Vera underlining that list due to his limited prospects on the pitch and the high cost attached to his original signing. As the restructuring at Atlético gathers pace, Vera’s future now hangs in the balance awaiting concrete interest from potential suitors.
