An agreement worth around £750,000 has been struck and the midfielder will sign a five-year deal.

Talks are now at an advanced stage, and Martinez will move to Merseyside when he turns 18.

His technical skills and ability in the final third are among the qualities that attracted Liverpool.

Martinez can play as a box-to-box midfielder and Liverpool will hope he can break into their first-team in the future.

He is likely to be sent out on loan when he moves to Liverpool in 2027.

Chelsea, Atletico Madrid, Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund and Benfica have all scouted the young playmaker.

He impressed at the CONMEBOL Under-17 Championship last month as Colombia secured a 4-0 victory over Argentina in the final.

Martinez is regarded as one of the most promising young talents in Colombian football, with his performances for Atletico Nacional’s youth ranks impressing big clubs across Europe.

Liverpool have proven they will not hesitate to hand youngsters a chance in the first team if they are good enough, and Martinez could be the next player off the talent pipeline.

Rio Ngumoha joined them from Chelsea in 2024 and has made 28 appearances this term.

England manager Thomas Tuchel has invited the Reds sensation to join their World Cup preparation camp in Florida after an impressive campaign.
