Atlético shut door on Barça move for Julián Álvarez | OneFootball

Atlético Madrid have taken a hard line over Julián Álvarez amid Barça interest.

According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, chief executive Miguel Ángel Gil Marín said he has told the player, his agent and Barça president Joan Laporta that Atlético will not transfer him.

Laporta had recently described Barça’s 100 million offer as not open-ended. Gil Marín countered that Atlético’s answer will not change and they do not want to sell, whether it is 100, 150 or 200 million.

He was also responding to Álvarez’s comments during the World Cup that a transfer would be best for everyone and that he wanted to fulfil his dream, understood as playing for Barça, though he did not name them.

Gil Marín added that Atlético is the right place for Julián and that he is the ideal centre forward for the club, effectively urging Barça to look elsewhere for a Lewandowski successor.
