The board at La Liga giants Barcelona have this week been dealt something of a blow, by their counterparts at La Liga rivals Atlético Madrid.

This comes amid confirmation that the Rojiblancos have no intention of forking over any kind of fee to make Clément Lenglet’s move to the club a permanent one.

Defender Lenglet for his part spent this past season out on loan away from Barcelona, in Spain’s capital with Atlético Madrid.

And the Frenchman went on to find some of his very best form on the books of Diego Simeone’s side, on his way to three goals and two assists in 34 appearances across all competitions.

The understanding, in turn, is that Atlético and Lenglet alike are keen on extending their time together beyond the coming summer.

The former, however, are only willing to play ball in the case of the stopper being released from his contract by Barcelona.

That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, who have confirmed that the Blaugrana, previously hopeful of securing a fee for Lenglet, now find themselves in a difficult situation:

‘Atlético Madrid are immersed in the process of signing more players in the centre-back position, and Lenglet is no longer a priority unless advantageous terms are agreed. Atléti are not willing to offer Barça financial compensation, despite their obvious interest.’
