Mamelodi Sundowns defender Aubrey Modiba is chuffed with the signings his club made in the ongoing January transfer window.

The Tshwane giants pulled off the blockbuster acquisition of Monnapule Saleng from Orlando Pirates, lured Brayan Leon from Independiente Medellin in Colombia and added Khulumani Ndamane.

Modiba believes the new faces are floor raisers as Sundowns are still competing on all fronts, both on the domestic and continental stage.

“Very good signings for us, hopefully they can help us in the team. They bring quality and depth into the team so that we can be able to do well in the Nedbank Cup, defend our league - the Champions League, so many competitions, so very good signings for us,” he said.

Having lost the 2024 Nedbank Cup final to Pirates, the Downs left-back stressed the significance of lifting the trophy this season, with their last triumph dating back to the 2021/22 campaign.

“It's very important [for us to win this cup] because this is a tournament that has been eluding us for a long time. We lost in the final [and] it's never easy to lose in the final,” added Modiba.

"So, for us it's to make sure that we do better than last season. We fell short in the semi-finals and hopefully right now we can be in the final and hopefully win it.

Miguel Cardoso's men have been drawn against newly promoted Motsepe Foundation Championship outfit Gomora United in the Nedbank Cup Round of 32.
