Aubrey Modiba thinks Mamelodi Sundowns should be wary of two Richards Bay players!
The sting of a recent defeat still fresh, Mamelodi Sundowns are already sharpening their focus for a crucial Betway Premiership encounter at the Lucas Masterpieces Moripe Stadium. As they prepare to host a resurgent Richards Bay FC, the mission is clear: redemption. The "Natal Rich Boyz" arrive with the wind in their sails, riding the high of two consecutive victories, setting the stage for a classic clash of a wounded giant against a confident challenger.
In the Sundowns camp, defender Aubrey Modiba has taken on the role of a tactician, pinpointing the very sources of Richards Bay's threat. He identified two key players his team must silence: the influential midfielder Tlakusani Mthethwa and the dangerous striker Gabadinho Mhango. Acknowledging the visitors' quality, Modiba shared his analysis:
“They are a very good team with a lot of youngsters especially from the DDC, you can see they are very hungry. I think Mthethwa in the middle of the park has been collecting man of the matches, he brings stability into their team. That’s one player we need to look out for. And obviously, they have a strong attack with Gabadinho Mhango there who’s been doing well. But we’re ready for the task.”
The defender openly conceded that the mid-week loss to Golden Arrows has cast a pall over the squad. However, he emphasized that within the high-stakes environment of Sundowns, there is no time for self-pity. The quick turnaround for this match is seen as a blessing, an immediate opportunity to correct course and reaffirm their dominance.
“Obviously the mood is down but we can’t dwell on that, we have another game to rectify mistakes,” he added. “It’s a good thing that it comes quickly after the one we lost against Arrows. Yeah, obviously the talk in the camp is to make sure we bounce back in the next game because we can’t drop points in two consecutive games. At Sundowns, that is not allowed. We’re ready for the task, and hopefully we can collect the maximum points.”
The scene is set for a compelling battle, where Richards Bay's momentum will be tested against Sundowns' determined resolve to return to winning ways.
