Fans of FC Augsburg were already frustrated before their 1-0 defeat to Borussia Dortmund last night was set in stone.

Midway through the game, several banners unfurled by supporters voiced their displeasure at how the club is being run - it read:

"Big words, no action – how much longer are you going to wait? No one is bigger than the club".

"Image change complete: From the underdog to the league's whipping boys".

"Personality cult and marketing mania – those are not our values".

The messages were clearly in reference to the club's bosses and Sandro Wagner, under whom their form has tanked in recent weeks.

“That's a shame, of course, fundamentally it's a shame when the spectators aren't satisfied,” said Wagner, in reference to the banners.

“There's discontent as a spectator when the results aren't there, that's perfectly normal, and we have to accept that,” he told Sky Germany.

Wagner was given the job after Jess Thorup, who took the club to their fourth-best Bundesliga finish in 2024-25, was sacked.

The Bavarian club stated that Thorup was dismissed "for the further development and direction of our club".
