As reported by BuLi News, Augsburg will look to maintain their perfect start when they host Bayer Leverkusen on Saturday. They arrive as early Bundesliga leaders on goal difference.
Manuel Baum’s side opened with a 3-0 home win over newly promoted Schalke 04, then triumphed 4-1 at Eintracht Frankfurt. They trailed at half-time before an own goal and Robin Fellhauer struck within two minutes of the restart, with Alexis Claude-Maurice and Fabian Reider sealing it.
They may take encouragement from last season’s league double over Leverkusen. The Fuggerstädter won 2-0 at home, then came from behind to take a 2-1 victory at the BayArena in April.
Carles Martínez Novell has had a mixed beginning to his first Bundesliga campaign. Leverkusen lost 3-2 at promoted Elversberg after a late fightback, before easing past Union Berlin 4-0 in their first home game as Equi Fernández, Facundo Medina, Patrik Schick and Ibrahim Maza all scored.
Die Werkself now seek back-to-back league wins before opening their Europa League campaign against Celje. Despite a setback on their last visit to the WWK Arena, they have won five of their previous eight away meetings with Augsburg.
Augsburg are without Faik Sakar, who suffered an ankle injury in training, plus Tim Breithaupt, Sima Suso and Steve Mounié. Anton Kade faces a late fitness test.
Leverkusen are missing Montrell Culbreath, Kennet Eichhorn and Nathan Tella. Guéla Doué and Eliesse Ben Seghir are set to be in the matchday squad after recovering from injuries.
