Anton Kade could hardly have asked for a better start to the Bundesliga season.
The Augsburg winger played a key role in his side's 3-0 victory over Schalke, providing the assist for Michael Gregoritsch's opener before scoring a spectacular goal of his own in the second half.
“We played the way we wanted to play again. I'm super satisfied with the result,” Kade said after the final whistle.
Augsburg controlled large parts of the match, although Schalke enjoyed periods of possession, particularly after falling behind.
“We also had to accept sitting back at times, but that's part of it. We used our phases in the game perfectly.”
Kade was at the heart of Augsburg's most important moments. His brilliant outside-of-the-foot cross set up Gregoritsch for the opener before he doubled the advantage himself in the 79th minute, putting the ball against the inside of the post and into the net.
The performance comes amid speculation that Kade could be considered for a Germany call-up by new head coach Jürgen Klopp.
Asked whether he had already been in contact with the former Liverpool manager, Kade replied: “I haven't had any contact with Klopp yet, but I think he saw a great game today.”
For Kade, the perfect response to the Germany rumours was therefore delivered on the pitch - and his performance will only fuel further speculation about a potential first senior international call-up.
