Austin FC have confirmed the transfer of midfielder Sebastián Driussi to River Plate for a club-record transfer fee on Friday.
The news arrives after the 28-year-old was heavily linked with an MLS exit to join the Argentine giants. He departs as the club's all-time leading scorer.
According to MLS insider Tom Boget, Austin FC "will receive $10 million fee + 8.5% sell-on clause." They now have an additional Designated Player spot available.
“Sebastián leaves Austin FC having made a tremendous impact on this Club during his three-and-a-half years here,” said Austin FC Sporting Director Rodolfo Borrell. “We wish him and his family nothing but the best as they return to Argentina. He will always be welcomed with open arms in Austin.”
During his time with the MLS side, Driussi registered 51 goals and 22 assists in 115 appearances across all competitions.
