Imagine your team is on the verge of qualifying for the knockout stages of the World Cup for the first time in 16 years, but the match kicks off in the wee small hours of the morning.
Would you stay up to watch it? For thousands of Australians on Wednesday, the answer was a resounding yes.
A huge throng of supporters gathered in Melbourne’s Federation Square to watch the Socceroos take on Denmark in the early hours of Thursday morning their time, and just look at the scenes when Mathew Leckie gave them the lead.
That goal was enough to seal the victory and send Graham Arnold’s side through to the last 16 for the first time since 2006.
Well worth staying up all night for.
