Auxerre intend to strengthen across the pitch in January after a disappointing summer and are attempting to take Romain Faivre on loan.

In L’Yonne Républicaine, owner James Zhou said they will reinforce during the break despite a tight budget affecting many clubs, adding that it is the owner’s role to respond.

After Sunday’s 3-4 defeat by Lille, head coach Christophe Pelissier said he had asked for experienced players at the start of the season and hopes to be heard now. He described the squad as too small, and wants two or three additions to boost competition and cover absences. Auxerre are currently in the relegation play-off place.

One signing per line is being considered to correct last summer’s recruitment.

Faivre, 27, is an attacking midfielder with 135 Ligue 1 appearances and 29 goals. He belongs to Bournemouth, is under contract until 2028, and was loaned last summer to Al-Taawoun in the Saudi top flight.
