According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, CD Castellón have agreed a deal with Melbourne City for Awer Mabil, who will return to the A-League and be closer to his family. The Australia international ends his time at Castalia.
Mabil joined in February 2025 from Grasshopper and quickly made an impact. In his first half-season he produced six assists that were pivotal in securing Segunda División safety.
He followed up with three goals and six assists the next campaign, adding experience and threat from the flanks. He missed the promotion play-off to Primera after a call-up with Australia for the World Cup, where they reached the last 32.
His farewell inside the dressing room was emotional. He thanked everyone at the club, said he was sad to go, and reflected on the stability he had found in Castellón.
He added that he would keep following Castellón and the group, noting he had arrived during a difficult period in his life and had been very happy over the past two years. He apologised for leaving midway through an ambitious push for promotion and offered his full support, before sharing hugs and even collective dances with team-mates.
