AZ Alkmaar are on the verge of signing Troy Parrott on a permanent deal from Tottenham Hotspur. The Republic of Ireland international is seen as a replacement to Vangelis Pavlidis, who left the AFAS Stadion for Benfica earlier this month. Parrott will join AZ off the back of a successful loan spell in the Eredivisie with Excelsior.
The attacking lineup at AZ currently consists of the likes of Lequincio Zeefuik (19), Mexx Meerdink (20) and Ernest Poku (20). The board believe that they have to bolster the attack before the start of the new season, and now Troy Parrott will be their man. The 22-year-old is currently undergoing medical tests before his official unveiling.
Several reports are suggesting that AZ will pay Tottenham nearly €8m for Troy Parrott, which would make the youngster their record signing. However, De Telegraaf believe the fee is slightly less than what English media are suggesting.
Parrott netted 17 goals in 29 Eredivisie appearances whilst on loan with Excelsior Rotterdam last season. The club were relegated to the second tier of Dutch football, but Troy Parrott stood out as the best player at the club during their disappointing campaign. At AZ the target will be to qualify for Europe next season.
