Since last year Bahia have searched for a goalkeeper to stabilise the position. They tried to sign Everson from Atlético-MG at the start of 2025, but he renewed his deal. Pau López of Girona was also targeted.

During the hunt, Marcos Felipe departed. Bahia brought in João Paulo on loan from Santos until June 2026. Ronaldo then produced a run of standout displays, secured the starting spot and was bought at the end of 2025.

Weverton previously played for Portuguesa, Botafogo-SP, América-RN, Oeste, Corinthians and Athletico, and won Olympic gold in 2016 in Rio de Janeiro. He has been at Palmeiras since 2017, making 448 appearances and claiming 12 trophies, including two Libertadores, three Brasileirões, one Copa do Brasil, one Recopa Sul-Americana, one Supercopa do Brasil and four Paulistões.
