Balancing Books and Boots: Joey Wuna on Football, the Leaving Cert and Grinds 360

This is set to be a very big week for Shelbourne Football Club’s Joey Wuna. The pacy winger just turned 17 and is on the eve of getting his Leaving Certificate results. Joey spoke with us about how Grinds 360 helped him to balance life as a footballer and as a student. “Especially during 6th Year Grinds 360 have helped me a lot. In a usual week for me I’d be training with the first team twice a week and be in school three days a week. So it’s been really helpful to be able to get home after training and go online with Grinds 360 to make sure that I’m where I need to be in my studies.”

As the exams drew closer Joey felt that there were certain areas of the curriculum that he had to prioritise: “I definitely needed to put more effort in on my Maths!” he laughed, “I spent a lot of time on Grinds 360 working to sharpen up my Maths and it helped me with English as well. I used it a lot throughout the year”

We asked Joey what his favourite subject was and his answer wasn’t a huge surprise. “PE! Definitely Physical Education yeah. The club was very supportive to me for days when I needed to prioritise my schoolwork and they really helped me along the way. Obviously being in this football environment was a big help for me when it came to PE. I enjoy Biology as well, and maybe when my playing career is behind me, I’d like to get involved in Sports Science or Physiotherapy.”

Shelbourne FC would like to wish Joey and all our young players the very best for their Leaving Cert results and we thank Grinds 360 for their continued support.
