After winning the Raymond Kopa Trophy, Lamine Yamal had also hoped to take home the Ballon d'Or on Monday night. But according to his father, Mounir Nasraoui, it's only a matter of time for the 18-year-old star. Nasraoui even spoke to the media after the gala, criticizing Dembélé's victory. "He's the greatest... I won't call it a robbery, but rather a moral injustice inflicted on a human being. Lamine Yamal is by far the best player in the world. It's not just because he's my son, but because he truly is the best player in the world." he declared.

His remarks did not sit well with everyone. In Spain, some, like Radio Marca journalist Ricardo Reyes, were not impressed by his statements. "I thought the ceremony was fair: those who won knew how to win, and those who lost knew how to lose. Everything was perfect until Lamine's father stepped in. He does his son a disservice by saying such things about the 18-year-old player." the journalist commented.
