Paris Saint-Germain forward Ousmane Dembele is ‘very keen’ on a move to Liverpool in the summer as the Reds look to replace Mohamed Salah, according to reports.
The Reds have been having a tough season in the Premier League after winning the title last campaign under Arne Slot.
After spending over £400m on new players over the summer transfer window, there are now rumours that Liverpool have decided to replace Slot.
The Reds did bounce back on Wednesday night with a 6-0 win over Azerbaijani side Qarabag in the Champions League to give them a place in the last 16 of the competition.
However, there have been widespread rumours that Slot will be replaced in the summer transfer window with former Real Madrid head coach Xabi Alonso being lined up to replace him.
There could be more big changes coming in the summer for Liverpool with Salah’s future up in the air and the Reds likely to go back into the transfer market to find a replacement.
And Spanish website Fichajes insist that Liverpool have decided to ‘make a move’ for Dembele in the summer as they look to make a ‘statement’ signing to replace Salah.
Salah’s relationship with the Liverpool board has ‘definitively broken down after months of internal tensions’ and the club have been forced to ‘search for a reliable replacement’.
Liverpool are ‘taking advantage’ of Dembele’s contract situation at PSG as the Frenchman, who won the Ballon d’Or in 2025, has ‘stalled his contract renewal with PSG after failing to reach an agreement on an astronomical salary’.
Despite Dembele mainly playing down the middle for PSG this season, Liverpool see him as the ‘perfect successor to occupy the right flank’ and the France international is ‘very keen on a move to England to prove himself in British football’.
The report adds: ‘Liverpool are confident that the prestige of their badge and the competitiveness of the English league will offset the current wage gap. Formal negotiations are expected to begin once the official transfer windows open next summer.’
But Liverpool may not be the only club looking at Dembele with Sky Sports revealing earlier this week that the Saudi Pro League are lining up a bid to land the PSG forward.
Sky Sports reporter Kaveh Solhekol said on a potential move: “If this happens, it would be the biggest deal for Saudi Arabia since they signed Cristiano Ronaldo.
“The Saudi Pro League clubs are anticipating a big summer transfer window and one of the players they are looking to sign is Ousmane Dembele.
“Could it happen? I think it’s a long shot – but the landscape of football in Saudi Arabia is changing.
“For a long time, the clubs were effectively bankrolled and controlled by the state. Then we had the situation where some of the biggest clubs were owned by the Sovereign Wealth Fund.
“Now we’re in the situation where clubs are opening up and attracting private investment. So it’s not just the case of Saudi state money being invested in these clubs and big-name transfers, it’s also private investors who will be using their own money to try and sign players.
“They may well try and sign him, but whether he would want to go to Saudi Arabia when he’s at the peak of his powers remain to be seen.”
