Banished Danilo Not Yet Too Close to Leaving Juventus

Juventus and Danilo will part ways in January, as the team hasn’t called him up for the Supercoppa Italiana while he seeks a new destination, but his transfer to Napoli isn’t yet imminent. Other sides are running interference, Alfredo Pedullà informs.

The Partenopei are keen but they haven’t reached out to the Old Lady directly. The Bianconeri want a small fee to let him out of his expiring contract should he join another Serie A or European team.

Napoli would rather sign Danilo on a free after he rescinded with Juventus, but it’s unlikely to happen. There’ll need to be some form of negotiation between the two sides. A couple of teams from Saudi Arabia have dangled a decent figure considering his age and situation. However, the veteran doesn’t intend to go there for now.

The Old Lady could change their stance and allow him to depart gratis if he decided to go back to Brazil. They wouldn’t impede a life choice. Instead, they don’t want to help the competition, either in Italy or the Champions League. He’ll make about €2.5M net till June.

Our Take on Juventus, Danilo, and Napoli

He’s been with them for a while, but he had a large valuation when he joined in a swap with Joao Cancelo, which is probably a factor as any club doesn’t want to record a loss on their balance sheets. The savings on his salary probably aren’t enough to offset that. The Azzurri are still the most likely landing spot, but they might have to give something or somebody in return. The Luis Hasa deal with Lecce might be a nudge.
