Barakaldo’s excellent Primera Federación campaign, which left them a penalty short of the Segunda División play-off, has been followed by an exodus at full-back and swift reinforcement.
As reported by as.com, right-backs Beñat de Jesús, whose Cádiz move was secured months ago, and Pedernales, have departed, the latter joining recently relegated CD Mirandés. Left-back Oier López opted for Cultural Leonesa, also relegated and now led by new sporting director Asier Goiria.
Striker Álex Valiño has left for Bulgarian newcomers Dunav Ruseen, promoted to the First Division. Eibar sounded out head coach Imanol de la Sota, who recently signed on for one more year in his fifth season. They would have needed to compensate Barakaldo to replace Beñat San José, but instead appointed former Bilbao Athletic boss Jokin Aranbarri under César Palacios.
Sporting director Joseba Núñez has steadied the project from Lasesarre with renewals for midfield pillars Huidobro, Álvaro Peña and Naveira, plus winger Jon Cabo.
The club have also added Ander Sustatxa, a versatile left-back from Arenas. The 20-year-old Santutxu product was mentored by Ibai Gómez and featured in the Primera Federación last season.
A key outstanding matter is extending the collaboration agreement within Athletic’s network of affiliated clubs.
