Frenkie de Jong is one of a number of players that FC Barcelona are working to tie down to a new contract, with his current one expiring in 2026.
A renewal offer has been sent to the Netherlands international has been sent months ago but the midfielder and his camp have not responded to the proposal yet.
Now, according to journalist Miguel Rico, Barcelona sporting director Deco met with one of Frenkie de Jong’s agents earlier this week, on Monday. But there has been no progress made on his contract situation.
De Jong is one of the highest earners at Barça and there is a sense of feeling within the club that his performances over the past five years have not lived up to that level.

As such, the Blaugrana have been trying to get the Dutchman to agree to a wage reduction, proposing a deal to extend his contract by two more years so that his current salary could be distributed over four years.
De Jong, for his part, is happy at Barcelona and has always maintained that he intends to stay put at the club.
But it appears that the Blaugrana and the player are still not on the same page when it comes to his contract situation.
If an agreement is not reached before the end of the season, Barcelona could consider putting the 27-year-old on the market in the summer amid fears that he might be planning to leave the club for free in 2026 when his contract runs out.
