According to a recent report from Fichajes, Barcelona have started moving seriously for Bournemouth centre-back Marcos Senesi, who is expected to be one of the most sought-after free agents in Europe at the end of the season.

Senesi is approaching a key moment in his career. The Argentine centre-back is not expected to renew his contract with Bournemouth, meaning he will be available on a free transfer once the campaign ends.

That situation has quickly caught the attention of several top clubs, as players of his profile and experience rarely become available without a transfer fee.

At 28, Senesi is considered to be at his peak. Over the last few seasons, he has built a strong reputation in the Premier League, performing consistently in one of the most demanding environments in world football.

Atletico Madrid in race too

Interest is not limited to Barcelona. In Spain, Atletico Madrid are also monitoring the situation closely, fully aware that this is a rare market opportunity.

For Senesi, the idea of playing in La Liga is very appealing, and sources close to the player suggest he is highly motivated by the prospect of returning to Spanish football in a more prominent role.

Those close to the defender indicate that contact has already been established with several major clubs.

Barcelona are firmly in the race

What changes the balance is Barcelona’s growing involvement. The club’s sporting leadership believe Senesi fits perfectly into the new project being shaped under Hansi Flick.

Internally, he is not seen as a simple squad option. On the contrary, Barcelona view him as a defender capable of competing for a starting role from day one.

Given the club’s financial limitations, the chance to sign a proven, experienced centre-back without paying a transfer fee is seen as a strategic move.

Barcelona need reliable quality at the back, and Senesi’s profile ticks many boxes.
