Barcelona’s recent back-to-back victories in La Liga, with wins over Valencia and Athletic Club, mark a significant achievement for the team.

Interestingly, it is the first time since the 2020/21 season that Barça have managed two consecutive wins in the league.

It must be noted that Barcelona were under the management of Ronald Koeman during the 2020/21 season. During that campaign, the Blaugrana secured consecutive wins against Villarreal (4-0) and Celta Vigo (0-3).

However, their run was halted with a draw against Sevilla at Camp Nou in their third match.

Series of bad starts

Looking back at the 2021-2022 season, Koeman’s Barcelona had an impressive start with a 4-2 victory over Real Sociedad. Yet, their momentum was short-lived as they drew 1-1 with Athletic Club at San Mames.

This trend continued into the following season, with Xavi now at the helm.

In Xavi’s first season (2022-2023), Barcelona’s campaign kicked off with a 0-0 draw against Rayo Vallecano. They bounced back in their second match with a 4-1 win over Real Sociedad.

However, this pattern of alternating results persisted into Xavi’s second season. Barça began with another goalless draw, this time against Getafe. However, they recovered from this slow start with a 2-0 victory over Cadiz at home.

Barcelona’s recent performances highlight a positive change, as the team seems to be finding their rhythm in La Liga after a period of inconsistent results and Flick certainly admires it.

“It’s a fantastic team, with a good atmosphere, the attitude in training is fantastic and it’s always a great pleasure to train with them. They always accept our game plans,” said the manager after the Athletic Club clash.

The consecutive wins against Valencia and Athletic Club signal a potential turning point, suggesting that Barcelona could be on the path to stabilising their league form.

This is a promising sign for the team, indicating that they may be able to build on this momentum and secure more consistent results in the future.
