Barcelona ‘agree’ €10m plus add-ons deal with Arsenal for Gabriel Jesús | OneFootball

Barcelona have reached agreement with Arsenal to sign Gabriel Jesús for €10 million plus incentives, covering for absences of Robert Lewandowski and Ferran Torres. Mundo Deportivo reports the 29-year-old is due in Barcelona for a medical and to finalise terms.

Barça view the deal as a market opportunity, and Hansi Flick values a centre forward who links play and can adapt across the line. Arsenal had long lost hope of reviving him, and an anterior cruciate ligament rupture in January 2025 kept him out for almost 11 months.

The club say this move does not end their interest in Julián Álvarez, whose transfer to Barcelona has been vetoed by Atlético. There is hope of trying again in future windows, provided he does not instead accept a Premier League return.

Flick’s side have started quickly, with Raphinha scoring three in the first two league games while operating centrally and leading the press. Jesús has never been an out-and-out poacher, and Pep Guardiola often used him wide.

Arsenal paid €52 million in July 2022 at Mikel Arteta’s request, but an early knee injury disrupted his first months and he finished that season with 11 goals. His output dipped in 2023-24, then came the ligament damage, and last season he featured 14 times in the Premier League, with three starts and three goals.

A Palmeiras graduate, he has not played for Brazil since November 2023. Flick believes he could still rediscover form before hitting 30, fitting the nine-and-a-half role the coach envisages.
