Barcelona are about to finalise their first significant sale of the summer transfer window, with Ferran Torres set to leave on a permanent basis. The 2026 World Cup hero has been absent from training these last few days in order to ensure that he does not suffer an injury that would scupper his move, and in the coming hours, he will head to Paris to continue his career with Paris Saint-Germain.

A few weeks ago, it became clear that Torres would be leaving Barcelona this summer. PSG have been pushing hard to convince him to join, and after he gave the green light, personal terms were quickly agreed, meaning that a club-to-club agreement was all that remained before a deal could be done.

Barcelona have always been open to letting Torres leave, given that he’s got less than a year on his contract. They have now reached an agreement with PSG on a deal worth a fixed price of €50m, as per Cadena SER.

Barcelona supporters may be surprised, and somewhat annoyed, to learn that the club have agreed to sell Torres for €50m. However, this has been done with a good reason, as the report revealed that had a deal been worth €55m or more, the Catalans would have been forced to pay €10m to Manchester City, as per a pre-agreed clause from when the 26-year-old joined in 2022.

Furthermore, Barcelona have also managed to avoid paying Man City €8m by not agreeing a new contract with Torres, as per MD. That was another clause that had been included in the original agreement between the two clubs from four years ago, which in essence, means that the Catalans can consider a deal to have been worth up to €73m for them, taking into account the €18m they avoided sending to Manchester.
