Earlier today, Barcelona announced the renewal of Fermin Lopez until 2029, tying the young phenom down to the club for the foreseeable future and improving his release clause to €500 million.

Next in line, they are looking to seal the deal with Gerard Martin who Hansi Flick has shown confidence in and they will then progress towards the contracts of two stalwarts – Pedri and Gavi.

Negotiations with the Canary Islander are already underway and moving positively and SPORT provides an update on Gavi’s situation at the club.

Barcelona in his blood

Gavi’s current deal in Catalonia sees him obligated to the club until 2026 and it is thus in the Catalans’ best interest to seal a deal before offers start flowing in.

Deco hopes to extend the midfield ace’s deal until 2030 as the management and administration see him as a vital part of the team’s present and future at just 20 years of age.

The publication relays that Gavi’s agent, Ivan de la Pena, knows of Barcelona’s intentions with Gavi’s contract and also his client’s stance which is to continue at the club.

Joan Laporta and Co. were hesitant to talk about a renewal while Gavi was injured, and now that he is back in action, will accelerate negotiations. There is a sense of certainty that an agreement can be reached with the player.

The 20-year-old, who is seen as a future captain at the club, returned to action for Barcelona against Sevilla earlier this month and even came off the bench against both Bayern Munich and Real Madrid.

He is expected to have more prominence against Espanyol later this week as the management slowly brings him to pace and incorporates him into the team’s dynamics.
