After an exceptional start to the season, the international break has offered the Barcelona top brass to sit down and chart the road ahead.

The club have decided it will be imperative to nail down the future of current stars, rather than going after new players in the upcoming January transfer window.

Keeping that in mind, fans can soon expect the club to officiate a series of contract renewals, much like last summer.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Barcelona have everything in place to tie down three key players in Raphinha, Marc Bernal and Xavi Espart.

The trio represent both the present and future of the club, and securing their long-term futures has become a clear priority for the hierarchy.

Raphinha, in particular, has been in the form of his life this season, scoring 14 goals across all competitions while thriving as captain and false nine.

Tying down the Brazilian is a logical step, especially with the forward having moved to appoint a new agent ahead of his renewal.

Bernal, meanwhile, is one of La Masia’s brightest prospects, while Espart has enjoyed a breakout start to the campaign, establishing himself in Hansi Flick’s side with his versatility and composure.

Important strategy for Barcelona

It is clear that Barcelona are bullish on their current set of players, with the club making progress even on the Bernal deal.

That said, Barcelona must tread carefully given their financial situation.

The club are already contending with a rising wage bill, and any new contracts, particularly improved terms for a player of Raphinha’s standing, will need to be managed within the constraints of Financial Fair Play.

Nonetheless, locking down three important figures would represent shrewd business for Barcelona.

With the team flying high at the top of La Liga and the squad brimming with young talent, ensuring continuity is key.
