As has been the case for most part of the history of the competition, Real Madrid and FC Barcelona are once again going to be the main two contenders for the La Liga title this season. Meanwhile, the two clubs might also cross-roads in their Spanish Super Cup, Copa del Rey, and UEFA Champions League campaigns.

However, the two clubs are not going to face one another only on the field, as they are also engaged in some off-the-pitch battles. One of the most notable of these is the legal battle between the two clubs, and one of their legal fights is set to reach a major cross-roads in the coming few days.

This is clear from a report from MARCA, which reveals that the president of Real Madrid, Florentino Perez, and Barcelona have been summoned to a conciliation hearing, following the lawsuit filed by the Catalan club after some of the statements made by the top Merengue official in a press conference last May.

The hearing is set to take place on 25 November in the Court ½ of the Madrid Courthouse. Right after the statements were made, the Blaugrana club had demanded that Perez retract them. Now, they will take the same position in the conciliatory hearing. If the Real Madrid president fails to appear in the court or refuses to retract his statements, the Catalans would begin criminal proceedings against him.

The main point of contention in this case is the statements in which Perez had accused Barcelona of systematic corruption in the Negreira Case, while also publicly claiming that his club would have won several more league titles if the Blaugranes had not manipulated the competition.

For now, Real Madrid and Barcelona are set to meet in the court, and it remains to be seen what position Florentino Perez would take. But by the look of things in recent months, the two clubs are looking set on an escalatory course.
