Barcelona are about to finalise their latest significant exit, with Ronald Araujo poised to leave the club on loan. The Uruguayan defender’s future has been in doubt ever since Hansi Flick pushed him down the pecking order at the start of the summer, and he’s now ready to move on in search for more starting chances.

Flick has Pau Cubarsi, Eric Garcia, Gerard Martin, Andreas Christensen, Alvaro Cortes and even Jules Kounde as centre-back options for the 206-27 season, meaning that Araujo is allowed to leave this summer. A sale would be preferred, although Barcelona have now settled for a temporary exit – albeit it could become permanent.

As per MD, Barcelona have reached an agreement with Liverpool for the loan of Araujo, who has also given the green light to join the Premier League club. He will now travel to England in the next 24 hours ahead of playing for Andoni Iraola’s side across the entirety of the 2026-27 season.

Liverpool will pay all of Araujo’s wages, retain buy option

The report has also confirmed that Liverpool will pay all of Araujo’s wages for the duration of his loan spell, meaning that Barcelona have saved a significant portion that can be used to register their own summer signings. A buy option clause has also been included in the agreement, meaning the 27-year-old could have played his final match for the Catalan club.

Letting Araujo leave is the right decision by Barcelona, especially if Flick had not planned to count on him for the upcoming season. The club makes an important saving that can be used towards a possible replacement, while for the player himself, he gets a much-needed change of environment that can allow him to return to his best level. He will have the chance to do so, given that he should be a regular starter alongside Virgil van Dijk.
