Barcelona have confirmed that their return to Camp Nou will not take place this weekend, as Getafe arrive in town for their second home game of the season. The Blaugrana made their home debut against Valencia on Sunday with a 6-0 win at the Estadi Johan Cruyff.

The Spotify Camp Nou was due to be ready in November of 2024, but after several delays, last week the Blaugrana confirmed that it would not be ready in time for their La Liga debut this season. Barcelona are still working to gain the Certificate of Completion for their works on the stadium, after which they can apply for a licence to open the ground.

Barcelona to remain at Estadi Johan Cruyff

Barcelona have announced that they will play against Getafe on Sunday night at the Estadi Johan Cruyff again, remaining in the 6,000-seater. Barcelona will open ticket sales to season-ticket holders at Montjuic first again, before opening it up again to members and then the general public. The club have given no further clues as to when they will be able to return.

Camp Nou updates

According to El Chiringuito, the plan is that Barcelona will return to their home ground on the 28th of September against Real Sociedad, and will then host their first home Champions League against Paris Saint-Germain there too. This of course relies on a rapid securing of the licences from the Council, and it has been pushed back continuously.

Barcelona’s staggered opening of Camp Nou

Their plan is to open the stadium in four stages, with the initial phase involving two stands being open with a capacity of 27,000. The plan is then to increase the capacity first to 45,000 and then to 60,000 before the end of the season. The final stage will see the full capacity of 105,000 open once the third tier is completed, although this may not be for another two years.
